Cast Drawing and Cast Painting Class - Ongoing - Monthly

The Three Graces

The study of plaster casts of antique sculpture was considered foundational for the training of artists up through the 19th century.

Studying a beautiful, inspiring cast under a stable light source is an excellent way to practice drawing and painting.

Sadie Valeri Atelier has recently added to our collection of casts and we have many wonderful pieces to choose from, including the Three Graces, Athena Adjusting her Sandal from the Acropolis, The Belvedere Torso, Michaelangelo’s Medici bust, and the Winged Victory.

Enrolled students have the sole use of their own cast drawing station, they have access to the studio most days of the week to work, and they can leave works-in-progress and relevant materials at their own station as long as they are enrolled.

A complete cast study can take several weeks to several months to complete.

Beginning students work in graphite pencil on paper.

Once a student has competed a cast drawing, with instructor approval they are eligible to create a monochromatic cast painting.

Cast Drawing sessions can be an excellent course of full-time study, or continuing education, for the serious student of Classical Realism.

All levels welcome.
